ServicesJ. H. Clissold was founded in 1910 by John Henry Clissold. The first premises were at Spen Mills in the small town of Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire.
The business quickly out grew these premises and moved to Brookhouse Mill on Balme Road, also in Cleckheaton.
Growth continued rapidly. John invested in his first looms and John’s son Joseph joined the business.
J. H. Clissold continued to thrive and during the years was joined by Leslie, John’s grandson.
It was a great shock to the textile trade when Leslie Clissold passed away aged 54 in September 1961, described as a Business man with the qualities of a gentleman and missed by many within the trade.
Florence Hanson stepped into the role of running the business and relocated it to Bradford, the heart of the textile trade.
In 1976 Florence Hanson retired and sold the business on, which was bought by a management team led by Adrian Berry, securing the name and keeping it as a privately owned company.
The business continued to grow and develop and moved to its current location in a purpose built building, which also had to be expanded in the early 1980’s.
Following several years of growth the company was awarded the prestigious Queen’s award for export.
In 2007, the business was sold and became part of the prestigious Holland & Sherry Group, part of the Tom James group of companies.
This has enabled Joseph H Clissold to develop within an international group whilst maintaining the Made in England product that we are passionate about.
The business is truly worldwide with major customers in the UK, Europe, Middle East, South East Asia, Japan, China, United States and Canada and Latin America.
The product type being offered has developed over recent years, creating unique specialised fabrics, we have developed not only for menswear but now being used in accessories and ladieswear. From mass market to Luxury brands and small boutiques, we will continue to respond to our client’s requirements fulfilling their individual bespoke requests.
